Music is our way of delivering.
The band consist of close connected family members, 3 sons and a father. The father, Dennis Ross was a trumpet player in a Jazz band in the early 1960’s called the Randells, located out of Virginia Beach. Later, as a radio technician serving in the Army, Dennis learned how to play the keyboard while stationed in Germany. As the years went on, in 1981 Timothy Ross was the first son born in North Carolina. At the age of 12, he got his first guitar…a Fender Squire. Learning techniques from local musicians, an older cousin and other guitar players in the neighborhood, Timothy grew quite fond of the guitar and what music had to offer. His younger brother Daniel Ross was born in 1983 and played his first drum-set at age 14. By age 17, Timothy wrote his first song and had started a band in high school called DV8 with his brother Daniel(Danny) Ross on the drums. DV8 was a blend of alternative rock and hip-hop. Three other musicians were involved, consisting of another guitar, a bass and a vocalist. They played local talent shows, parties and Old Dominion University , a benefit for the Red Cross charity foundation. After a fair run, DV8 broke up and Soul Element was formed. Some members from DV8 merged over, but later dropped off and Tim and Dan were back to the drawing board. By 2001, Soul Element was formed and the band was getting a name locally, travelling from Moyock to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. The blend was innovative with reggae, jazz and blues elements that were being collaborated with rock and hip-hop. Dennis was invited to appear with the trumpet on occasions and was known for playing the trumpet and keyboard at the same time, contributing to winning 3rd place in a battle of the bands competition and landing a gig after at the Outer Banks spot called the Brew Station …the band was destine to have a future. Later that year Timothy learned to sing and play guitar. A few years later the band changed the name to SOL Element, because there was a SOUL Element somewhere else in the country. Come to find out there is another SOL Element…but only one Sol Element. In 2007, there was another brother…the youngest, Jeff Ross. When losing there bass player, they decided to teach Jeff how to play bass. Jeff was a fast learner and with all the musicians in the family, it didn’t take long to catch on. Dennis later joined the band full time and started touring nation wide. All members of the band sing, mix and record. Throughout the years, Sol Element has written over 25 original songs and have had members come and go. The base of Sol Element is the Ross family. In the history of the band they have played and traveled The Outer Banks, Wilmington, North Carolina, Virginia Beach, Great Bridge, Key West, New Orleans, Savannah Georgia, Charleston S.C, New York, San Diego, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Tampa and Brazil. The band is currently in the studio and continues to produce music . They will go on an an East Coast tour when the next C.D is planned to be released in Spring of 2015. Sol Element is grateful to it’s faithful following and hopes to go as far as God will take them.
