After a long six (6) year protracted zoning battle with the Town of Kill Devil Hills, the Outer Banks Brewing Station has finally been given approval to install a 10kw wind turbine in their backyard. To celebrate this special one-of-a-kind event, on Earth Day, April 22, 2008 the Outer Banks Brewing Station will dedicate and start-up the FIRST WIND TURBINE ever installed at a restaurant or brewpub in the United States. The turbine will produce electricity to help power the Brewpub and it will have the distinguished company of literally silhouetting the monument commemorating the Wright Brothers historic First flight here 105 years earlier. It will be a day of celebration, festivities, educational displays and voter registration, with an old fashioned Southern pig picking, informational booths, Brewing Station beers and three local bands starting at noon. The celebration will be affiliated with the Earth Day Network (EDN) which was founded as a nonprofit organization by the organizers of the original Earth Day in 1970. The day will celebrate the continued growth & diversity of the environmental movement in promoting a healthy, sustainable planet.
