From Our Brewmaster!

The OBBS Brewmaster: Scott Meyer

I like to think of our pub brewery as a kitchen rather than a factory. I never stop experimenting. Every brew is the result of the culmination of everything I’ve learned about brewing to date. Sort of the way a jazz musician approaches music.

Brewmaster Scott Meyer in the BreweryOlsch is the only constant, but even there things have changed. Some beers come back by popular demand, so the name comes back, with a general aim at recreating the beer, but then innovation (and necessity), new ingredients, and fresh ideas are incorporated.

Such is the luxury of brewing in a beer kitchen rather than a widget factory, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Cheers!
Scott Meyer

BUGZ!!!

From time to time every brewers’ bell gets rung! I got mine coming off late last summer’s hectic tourist season. One of our beers got infected!….

Lemongrass Ale by Outer Banks Brewing Station

*I didn’t say full disclosure Vol. 1 LemonGrass Wheat Ale is a perennial work in progress; it was one of the first beer recipes I created back in California at the Bison Brewing Company in 1993.  The concept followed from my observation that a lot of people enjoy putting lemon in their Hefeweizen, even though it [...]

Attention, Lemongrass Wheat Lovers!!

Posted on October 5, 2011 by obxBrew in Blog, Brewmaster

Get it while it lasts! This zesty golden Hefeweizen  is infused with a potent smack of Lemongrass. The flavor is crisp, tart and refreshing – (5.2% abv.) We do, of course have some nice new fall offerings as well.  The Irie Tropic Stout (Extra strong, 7.4% abv.) and Iron Binnacle Baltic Porter (at 8.4% abv. served [...]

Lemongrass Bottles Back in!!!

OBBS Lemongrasswheat

Our elusive, highly-prized award winning, bottle conditioned Lemongrass Wheat Ale is back in half liter bottles while quantities last!  We know a lot of advertizements use ”limited” to drive sales but in our case, it’s too true.  We have a small brewery and our “bottling line” consists of a one head manual filler (read: one bottle at [...]

Welcome Adam!

Adam

The Brewing Station has lucked out again!!  When assistant brewer Seldon Sawyer left after 5 years of service (to follow his heart -read girl – to Missouri) we were nervous about who could fill his boots.  Shaazam!  Straight from California by way of VB (where his fiancee is from) comes Adam Bell to save the [...]

Beers on Tap Now
I like to think of our pub brewery as a kitchen rather than a factory. I never stop experimenting. Every brew is the result of the culmination of everything I’ve learned about brewing to date.

Ölsch
$5.00
THE thirst quencher! Brewed in the Kölsch style, it’s a refreshing, pale, delicate beer with a lively aroma imparted by Santiam and Perle hops......(4.8% abv.)
Chillzner
$5.00
Brewed with Floor-malted Bohemian Pilsner malt, decoctionmashed (old school mash boiling technique), fermented with Czech pilsner yeast and hopped with whole-cone Sterling (a US grown Saaz clone). It’s light & refreshing with a honeyed maltiness and gentle hop character. (5.6% abv)
Abracadabra Brown Ale
$5.00
Easy drinking – Get one and watch it disappear! Mellow yet robust, dark in color, but tastes light – a study in contradictions like the brewpub! (5.6% abv.)
Moondog Extra Special Bitter (ESB)
$5.00
Strikes a nice balance between forward floral hop aromas, rich caramel flavors, and lingering hop bitterness. Amarillo, Fuggles, and Crystal hops are well accentuated in this eminently sessionable Extra Special Bitter Ale. (4.8% abv)
Ay IPA!
$5.00
Assistant brewer Adam Ball’s marching orders when the head brewer went on vacation were: Brew some beer so we won’t fall behind. He’s carried out his orders admirably with this extra hoppy golden “west coast style” IPA so fragrant with Northern Brewer, Glacier, Crystal & Simcoe hops. It’s yummy! (7.7% abv)
Summer Rye Stout
$5.00
A rich and chewy stout brewed with plenty of spicy rye malt character. Another excellent addition brewed on Adam’s watch, (maybe I can retire to Portugal now). (6.2%)
